No Words

Every once in a while we get to have fleeting moments where the moment itself is so full of feeling that we struggle to make room for words. These “gifts” remind us that feelings, connection and simply being present are often enough by themselves. This radiant golden Big Maple leaf was one of those for me.

I have to say that words can be over-rated. Take a look here at this 2019 BBC video that fellow artist and nature lover Roberto Kamide sent me, and let me know what you think: Maria Cinta, Swan Lake.

Similarly, visual and tactile art can be used to reach those who can no longer access their words. The Brush Off Project and Competition was created by Marina Cutler and the team at Avenue Art specifically to support those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases by providing them with art-based programs. I am honored to have been asked to be a part of this amazing effort, the proceeds of which go to fund these programs.

The 7th International Brush Off Project Painting Exhibition kicks off this Saturday, with a live-streamed awards night from 5-6p EST. Click here if you wish to nominate a painting for the 2020 People’s Choice Award: Contact Avenue Art. While the event is free and no actual tickets are required, click here if you wish to donate to the cause: Brush Off Donations.

May you be inspired to donate, not because it’s something you “should” do, or feel obligated to do, but because you are moved to do so. It will be a gift that gives back to you - without words.

Feeling thankful, for words, art, music…and moments.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
